The Forgotten Picture

This is my favorite picture from my D.C trip. It took me a long time to figure out how to get it from my camera phone to my laptop. (Hint: Sent it as a email to myself.)

I wish I could capture the power of the memorial wall and describe just how I felt seeing those names carved in stone. The absolute heavy sadness of death. Of lives gone violently. I still feel the impact of being there, when I try to. Visiting that place was good for my character research, and added another layer to my portrayal of a certain vigilante.

I ran my fingers over some of those names and hoped they had someone who loved them. Someone who would honor their memory. I hoped they wouldn’t simply vanish into oblivion, unknown soldiers but for the names they left behind.

The Memorial is very sobering and I think everyone should see it once in their life.
